Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Kickers (4-1-1) claimed their fourth-straight victory after a 2-1 win over the league leaders Greenville Triumph SC (5-2-1) at City Stadium Saturday night. Emiliano Terzaghi and Ryley Kraft scored the two goals in a second-straight match to cancel out Brandon Fricke's goal for Greenville.
For the first seven minutes of tonight's match, both Richmond and Greenville came together to recognize the fight for equality, diversity and inclusivity by using the time to honor the ongoing movement around social injustice and the need for positive change in our sport and in our society.
10 minutes into the match the Kickers nearly came away with an early lead. Luke Pavone played the ball to Matt Bolduc on the right wing. As he reached the endline, Bolduc whipped in a cross that grazed the head of Ryley Kraft, but the midfielder could not redirect it into the net.
Richmond would break through just five minutes later. Once again, it was Bolduc on the right wing. After shaking off his defender, Bolduc got into the box and just needed a simple touch to set the ball up for Emiliano Terzaghi to score his fifth goal in six matches.
Greenville would pull level in the 29th minute. Alex Morrell sent in a corner kick that found Brandon Fricke. He was able to get enough of a touch on the ball to hit the underside of the crossbar and there was nothing Akira Fitzgerald could do with it.
A goal line clearance from Ivan Magalhães prevented the visitors from scoring a second goal in the 35th minute. Noah Pilato won the ball on the left wing and quickly found Morrell. He looked for an early shot that caught Ftizgerald out in space as the keeper pushed it away. The ball fell to Carlos Gomez in the box. His shot was on frame but Magalhães was there to deny him.
Just before halftime, Ryley Kraft would get the Kickers back in control. Terzaghi tried for his second of the night, but his shot was blocked. The ball fell loose at the top of the box. Pavone would get on the ball, going for a shot catching the Triumph backline off guard. The shot hit off the post. With no one reacting, Kraft slipped through and put his shot inside the near post for his second goal in as many matches.
Continuing to pose a threat on the right wing, Bolduc nearly came up with his second assist of the night from a long range effort by Gianluca Cuomo. Exploiting the space, Bolduc once again got in behind the Greenville defense and laid the ball back for Cuomo. The second half sub stepped up and got a touch in for a shot that needed a massive save from Dallas Jaye.
Three minutes later, Cuomo would get a chance once again. This time Wahab Ackwei fed the ball to Cuomo in nearly the same spot. With power behind his shot, Jaye needed to once again come up with the save, diving to his left.
The Kickers would be reduced to 10 men for the final 16 minutes of the match. Ian Antley was issued a second yellow card after a challenge on Lachlan McLean.
The Kickers go on the road next Saturday night, traveling to face FC Tucson at Kino North Stadium. This match kicks off at 10:30 p.m. EDT. Catch the match live on WTVR CBS 6.3 (Comcast 206, Verizon FiOS 466) and streaming on ESPN+.
