
Tennessee Holds on Late to Win 8-7

KODAK, TN- The Tennessee Smokies held on late to a ninth inning rally by Rocket City to win it 8-7. With runners at first and third in the ninth inning, Rocket City outfielder Bryce Teodosio grounded out to shortstop Andy Weber to end the ballgame.
The Smokies scored early and often with a three run first inning to make it 3-0. Tennessee tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third when Casey Opitz hit a two run single to make it 5-0, followed by an Andy Weber single to make it 6-0.
Rocket City cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth inning when Gabe Mathews singled to score two runs and then Vera blooped a single to score another run and make it 6-3. Owen Caissie hit his 31'st double of the season to score BJ Murray in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 7-3.
Rocket City outfielder Tucker Flint doubled to score D'Shawn Knowles in the top of the seventh to cut the lead in half again and make it 8-4. In the top of the ninth inning, Rocket City made a threat. Adrian Palencia hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to three. A batter later, Flint hit another base hit to score another Trash Panda and make it 8-6. Vera contributed again with a sacrifice fly to cut the Tennessee lead down to one run at 8-7. Then with two outs in the ninth inning, Teodosio grounded out to end the ballgame, with the Smokies hanging on 8-7.
