
Tennessee Comes Out Victorious in All-Time Pitching Duel

PEARL,MS- In one of the best pitching duels of the season, the Smokies snapped an eight game losing skid to win game three by a final of 1-0. Despite only having one hit in the ballgame and going 0-for-8 with RISP, Tennessee pulled out the win to separate themselves in the second half standings.
Both starters in tonight's game were unbelievable. Mississippi starter Luis De Avila tossed six shutout innings, allowing one hit which was an infield single by Owen Caissie. De Avila struckout a career high eleven batters in the no-decision. Smokies starter went toe-to-toe with De Avila, tossing six shutout innings with six strikeouts.
The Smokies finally cracked the scoreboard in the top of the eighth inning. The Smokies loaded the bases on two walks and a fielding error with two outs in the inning. Smokies first baseman Nelson Maldonado walked on a 3-2 count to score Cole Roederer and take a 1-0 lead.
Tennessee relievers Hunter Bigge and Eduarniel Nunez combined for three scoreless frames with five combined strikeouts. Nunez picked up the win and Hunter Bigge got his first save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. The Smokies snap the losing streak and now lead the Trash Pandas by 7 games with 9 left to play.
