Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release

Gabe Temple buried his team leading-14th goal of the season 59 seconds into overtime for a 3-2 road win over the Maryland Black Bears Friday night.

Wilkes-Barre picks up win number 16 on the season, jumping two points ahead of Maryland, while subsequently staying within two of Northeast for the final playoff spot in the East division.

Friday's contest featured a whopping 20 power plays, with each team recieving 10 man advantages. Only one special teams goal would come, and its was delivered by Knights blue liner Evan Orr. The rookie defender was lined up for a one-time-bullet, thanks to a point pass from Davis Pennington, helping Wilkes-Barre strike over halfway through the first period.

Maryland took over in shots this game, especially in the third period when they unloaded 18 onto the net of Zach Stejskal. Daylon Mannon was able to tie things up with an early second period goal, but a secondary chance for Maryland's Bobby Batten under two minutes into the third put the Black Bears up, 2-1.

As time continued to wind down, Sacha Guillemain was able to step up and tie the game on a wraparound goal against David Tomeo; the former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights goalie from a season ago. Guillemain's 9th of the season came with just over four minutes to go. The Knights ended up going to overtime for the sixth time in their last 12 games.

Fortunately, the grey and blue managed the extra point relatively quick during the three-on-three period. Shay Donovan quarterbacked a play into the corner, setting Gabe Temple up in the slot. A quick pass fed Temple for a top shelf shot, beating Tomeo and the Black Bears to take the opening game of the weekend. This was the second time the Knights beat Maryland in overtime this season. The club is a perfect 5-0 against the NAHL's newest team. Stejskal has been the winning net minder in each game. The Minnesota-Duluth commit notched 36 saves in the victory.

Saturday marks the end of a six-game road trip for the Knights, as they'll duel with the Black Bears once more at 7:45pm. The live broadcast can be found on. HockeyTV.
