Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Team USA's National Team Development Program's skill was on display at the Mystique Community Ice Center on Friday night. The NTDP went 4-for-5 on the power play and shut out the Dubuque Fighting Saints for the first time this season in a 9-0 win.
Team USA put up 50 shots on net, and broke the game open in the second period with a 19-5 shot differential in the middle frame. The Fighting Saints had a major power play to work with early in the second period down 2-0, but were unsuccessful on converting. Cutter Gauthier and Devin Kaplan both scored within 30 seconds to add to the NTDP's lead.
USA added the pressure with five goals on 12 shots in the third period. The power play struck three times in the third period as the game got out of reach for the Fighting Saints. Frank Nazar III scored his second goal of the evening, Isaac Howard scored a pair of tallies, Ryan Chesley and Will Smith added goals of their own to cap off USA's offensive deluge.
Rutger McGroarty started the scoring out a netmouth scramble at the 16:39 mark of the first period. Late in the first period, after Philip Svedebäck had continued to deny shot after shot, USA broke the ice. The Swede stopped 18 of 19 shots in the first period alone. Nazar added his second goal of the night before Svedebäck departed due to injury, and Paxton Geisel took over in net the rest of the way.
Tyler Muszelik posted his first shutout of the season with 22 saves against the Fighting Saints' league-leading offense. The Saints went 0-for-5 on the power play on the evening.
Dubuque's six-game winning streak has come to a close. But the three-in-three continues with a trip to Madison to take on the Capitols on Saturday, February 19 at 7:05 p.m.
