Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - Team Black took down Team White 5-2 in the Stockton Thunder's inaugural "Black vs. White Intra-Squad Scrimmage" at Stockton Arena on Wednesday night.
Team Black was led by right winger Nick Larson who scored 2 goals, and almost had a third only to see it hit off the post. His first goal was aided by a costly turnover by rookie Thunder goalie Parker Milner. Larson hammered home a loose puck in the slot to tie the game at 1-1 before Milner could scramble back into position.
Both teams started out slow, with the look of getting their legs under them. Luckily Thunder fans didn't have to wait too long as the game turned into a tight back and forth battle.
Team White got the scoring started in the first 25-minute half when center Andrew Clark scored 6 minutes in, putting the puck past Team Black goalie Dan Clarke. After Larson's goal, center James Henry banged home a rebound with under a minute to play to give Team Black and 2-1 lead at the break.
Clarke played the entire first half for Team Black and gave up just one goal while stopping the other 8 shots he faced. Brian Foster replaced him in the cage in the second half and faced 14 shots, saving 13. On the other side, Parker Milner played the whole game in goal for Team White, surrendering 5 goals on 21 shots.
Team White briefly made it a one-goal game following Larson's second of the night, when Matt Bergland fired a one-timer past Foster. But Adam Stuart and Mathieu Gagnon both finished off passing plays from forward Corey Trivino late in the game to give Team Black some breathing room.
Next up, the Thunder face-off against a different team for the first time this year when they welcome the Bakersfield Condors to Stockton Arena on Friday night. The game is the lone home preseason contest of the year, with doors opening at 6:30 PM before the puck drops at 7:30. Tickets are $10 through the box office and just $5 for season-ticket holders.
