Q&A with Solar Bears Goaltender Peter Delmas
October 10, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Solar Bears Director of PR and Broadcasting Bob Mills had a chance to catch up with Solar Bears goaltender Peter Delmas today. Delmas is set to join the team at practice on Monday.
Q: You aren't going to be here for the two preseason games against the Florida Everblades, but you will be ready to go for practice on Monday morning. Are you looking forward to getting on the ice?
A: Absolutely. I was in camp with Hamilton, but it has been a little while since I have been able to get a full practice in. I am looking forward to getting to Orlando and getting back to work.
Q: How quickly do you think you will get your timing and feel completely comfortable with a new team in front of you?
A: Hopefully not too long. I have been skating and practicing in Toronto for the past few weeks, so I feel good. It should only take three or four practices to learn the systems and get to know the guys.
Q: You have been named the Goalie of the Week in the ECHL on three separate occasions. What do you think has contributed to your success at the ECHL level?
A: You have to be consistent. That is so important over a 72-game schedule. Every night you have to make sure you give your team a chance to win, and sometimes you have to steal a game for your club. My focus is always to be reliable and play as many games as possible.
Q: You have had a chance to play a few games in the American Hockey League. How has that experience helped?
A: Getting to the AHL, and then of course the NHL, is the goal. That's where you strive to be. You have to see the work ethic that everyone brings to the rink, and make sure you continue to have that same level of intensity at the ECHL. It's important to play every game hard and prove you belong at the next level.
Q: You had a chance to play a few games in Orlando at the Amway Center last season as a member of the Wheeling Nailers. What were your impressions of the city?
A: I was extremely impressed with the city, the rink and the fans. The Amway Center is one of the best arenas in hockey. The fan support during those games was shockingly large. It was a really fun place to play and I am looking forward to having those fans cheering for me this season.
