Tonight's Matchup: This is the first of three preseason games for the Bulls, and the first of two exhibition matchups against the Bakersfield Condors. The Bulls went 7-4-1 against Bakersfield in their inaugural season.
The SF Bulls are back for their second season. To quickly recap the inaugural season; the Bulls finished in eighth place in the Western Conference, grabbing the final playoff spot in their first season. In the opening round of the playoffs, they took on the top-ranked Alaska Aces. The Bulls split the first two games in Alaska, earning a 1-0 shutout in Game 2, but ultimately lost in five games.
Since then, SF Bulls President and Head Coach Pat Curcio has been hard at work shaping the roster for season two. You can expect a good blend of size, speed and physicality with the Bulls Version 2.0.
Seven players on the Training Camp roster have returned from last season. On defense, last year's captain Scott Langdon, and the team's Most Improved Player, Dylan King are back. Up front, Jordan Morrison, Dean Ouellet, Kris Belan, Christian Ouellet and Brett Findlay. D. Ouellet represented the Bulls at last year's All-Star Game. He and Belan each earned AHL call-ups at the end of the season.
Just like last season, the Bulls' affiliates, the San Jose Sharks and Worcester Sharks, are stockpiling the Bulls with some quality players. San Jose has assigned goaltender J.P. Anderson and forward Chris Crane. Anderson is entering his first professional season after a stellar career in the Ontario Hockey League. Crane is a seventh-round draft pick of San Jose. He played four years at Ohio State University, and finished last season in Worcester. The Bulls have also received from Worcester, defensemen Steven Tarasuk, Collin Bowman and Kyle Bigos, who hails from Upland, California, and forward Ryan McDonough.
The Condors finished last season in ninth place in the Western Conference and out of the playoffs. Since the end of last season they have hired new head coach Troy Mann. The team is entering its 16th season.
Following tonight's game, the Bulls will host the Stockton Thunder this Saturday at 7:30 pm. San Francisco finishes their preseason schedule in Bakersfield this Sunday at 4 pm.
