July 2, 2010 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Phoenix Mercury News Release

PHOENIX - Mercury guard Diana Taurasi and forward Candice Dupree were named to the official roster for the 2010 USA Basketball Women's National Team that will compete in the WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun, USA Basketball announced yesterday.

The Mercury duo will team up on the 11-woman roster that includes six Olympic gold medalists to take on the WNBA stars on July 10 at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN at 12:30 p.m. PT. In addition to the exhibition contest, the entire USA National Team Pool will conduct a training camp on July 7-11.

Taurasi, who is leading the league in scoring averaging 22.1 points per game, will make her third appearance on the USA Basketball Women's National Team. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Taurasi played for the national team in 2004 and 2008, and will reunite on the court with University of Connecticut and USA Basketball Head Coach Geno Auiremma for the first time since graduating from Connecticut in 2004.

Dupree, a three-time WNBA All-Star, is averaging 13.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while leading the league in field goal percentage shooting 64.7% from the field. She will make her first appearance with the USA Basketball Women's National Team.

This marks the second time a USA National Team will face a team comprised of WNBA standouts. Prior to the 2004 Olympic Games the U.S. faced a team comprised of WNBA players in an exhibition game at Radio City Music Hall. The USA scored a 74-58 victory in an exciting send-off for the U.S. team that eventually captured gold in Athens.

The Mercury returns to US Airways center on Saturday when it hosts the New York Liberty at 7 p.m. Lower-level tickets starting at just $10 can be purchased by calling 602-252-WNBA or by visiting phoenixmercury.com.
