Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), put their first win in the record books tonight as they hosted the Fort Wayne Komets and took a 3-2 shootout win.

The match was even till the end, and was one with superb goaltending in place from both clubs. Colin Chaulk put the Komets on the board first with an even strength goal at 15:31 in the second period. The Vipers' 6-foot-4, 220-pound Mark Scott struck back with a power play goal assisted by David Beauregard with just under five minutes remaining in the period. Fort Wayne struck again early in the third period on a shorthanded goal from Danny Stewart. The Vipers rallied back yet again with a power play goal off the stick of D-man Brano Kvetan, off assists from Mike Krelove and Mark Scott.

With the score locked at two apiece, Vipers netminder Jamie Hodson recorded two consecutive shootout saves on shots from Dustin Virag and P.C. Drouin. Jan Jas put a shot in past Kevin St. Pierre, but the Komets' Colin Chaulk fired one past Hodson in the next round to even the score once again. Josh Tataryn was the next to score, flipping a shot over the shoulder of St. Pierre in round five for the shootout win.

Jamie Hodson, who was named the first star of the game, recorded 33 saves in his first win wearing a Vipers uniform. Kevin St. Pierre was almost equally as dazzling in front of the Komets net, recording 26 saves, but it wasn't enough to hold off the offensively-inclined Vipers in the shootout.

The Vipers host the Komets for game two tomorrow night at 7:35p.m. at the Roanoke Civic Center. Tickets are available at the Civic Center box office, or through tickets.com. Visit the Vipers online at www.valleyvipershockey.com for more information, and come support your Roanoke Valley Vipers!
