Tarantulas sign Lardner

September 21, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Topeka Tarantulas News Release

[TOPEKA, KS.] - The Topeka Tarantulas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that the club has signed forward Tab Lardner. Lardner, a 5'11" 175 pound forward, from Edmonton, Alberta has spent the last three seasons with the Austin Ice Bats of the Central Hockey League (CHL). In his three seasons with Austin, Lardner tallied 119 points, and 165 penalty minutes in 192 games played.

On June 14th, the Tarantulas traded Jared Dumba to the Ice Bats in return for Lardner's rights. "The trade was a little surprising at first, considering I spent three years in Austin." Lardner continued on the trade, "now that I look at it, I'm glad I got traded and I am looking forward to put on the skates for the Tarantulas."

Prior to playing with Austin, Lardner played collegiate hockey for Michigan Tech (NCAA Division I) from 1997/98-2000/01. In the four years with the Huskies, Lardner had 55 points and 169 penalty minutes in 141 games played.

"I think Tab Lardner is a great addition to our team. He is the type of player that can be used in all situations on the ice." Head Coach Joe Coombs continued, "Lardner is a good team player and looks to contribute any way he can. That's the kind of player I was looking for when I traded for him."

"I am a gritty forward that goes hard to the net." Lardner continued on what the fans in Topeka can expect from his style of play, "I like to work the penalty kill and love blocking shots. I work hard and give maximum effort every time I step on the ice."

Season tickets, group tickets, and mini-plans for the 2004-2005 season are now available. Contact the Tarantulas office at (785) 235-9466 for more information.
