Tampa Bay Sun FC News Release
TAMPA, FL - The Tampa Bay Sun continue the second half of their season with a tie against DC Power FC, 1 to 1. With temperatures rising and a comfortable breeze replacing the cold of their last home match at Suncoast Credit Union Field in Downtown Tampa, the Sun returned to the pitch with energy and intensity.
Tampa Bay Sun FC took on DC Power FC today for the first time this season. This might be the first time Tampa Bay faced DC, but it will not be the last. This Saturday's home game marked game one out of three matches against DC Power FC this spring.
MATCH RECAP
Tampa Bay Sun FC kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 23rd minute of the match. Jordan Fusco's left footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom right corner gave the Sun an early lead against DC.
Sydny Nasello of the Sun had an impressive attempt in the 38th minute of the game. The forward's attempt included a standout dribble and right-footed cross into the box to Madi Parsons, which was then shut down by DC.
While continuing to fight, DC Power FC eventually equalized the score. Forward Claire Constant made a left footed shot from very close range to the bottom left corner following a set piece situation. Constant's goal put DC back in the game in the 63rd minute.
Tampa Bay's Gabby Provenzano missed a right footed shot from the center of the box, which was missed to the left. The midfielder's pursuit was assisted by Sabrina McNeill with a pass to Provenzano from the head in the 69th minute of the match.
Tonight's game continued the Spring schedule for the Sun, which will include six more home games set through May. The match featured a Valentines theme, with love inspired activations and in-stadium themed experiences to celebrate love for the game and Tampa Bay community.
QUOTES
Head Coach Denise Schilte-Brown:
"There are small, small things we have to work on, but for the most part, I was really proud of our players, how they executed our tactics today. They did everything I asked them to do. And we just continue to hunt for those wins."
Midfielder Jilly Shimkin:
"Finding more of an offensive identity is definitely clicking for us. I think partnerships and chemistry has started to click, and I think just the competitiveness and training- like starters and subs- it's... very competitive. Everyone pushes each other every single day."
Midfielder Jordan Fusco:
"I think this team is a really close-knit group of girls and we stick together. I mean, even getting a tie today, I know we're going to come out next game and stick together and just compete even more in the next game. So that's special from this group."
