Corpus Christi FC News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Jan. 26, 2026) - Corpus Christi FC has signed forward Alexis Cerritos to join in the attack ahead of the Sharks first professional season in 2026, pending league and federation approval. Cerritos returns to South Texas after he spent a season with Rio Grande Valley FC Toros in 2021.
Cerritos has a knack for finding himself in the right place at the right time on the pitch, having scored 20 goals and five assists in the last three seasons. Cerritos spent last season with AV Alta FC for their inaugural season, contributing the second most goals on the team.
Cerritos is a dual citizen of the United States and El Salvador. He's made appearances for the national team of the latter and at the time of his debut for Los Cuscatlecos, he was the second youngest player ever to dawn the blue and white in a national match.
"The chance to work with Éamon and be part of a new club with high expectations made this decision easy for me," Cerritos said. "I believe in the vision here and I'm excited to help set the standard and push for a strong season with Corpus Christi!"
Cerritos came up in the D.C. United Academy before going pro in 2019. He made stops with teams in Mexico and Portugal. He spent time in the USL Championship playing with Loudon United (2019), Orange County SC (2020), Rio Grande Valley (2021), Central Valley Fuego FC (2022) and Lexington SC (2024). He's Central Valley's all-time leader in goal contributions. Cerritos also had a short stint in MLS Next Pro with Huntsville City FC before being loaned to Lexington SC.
"Alexis is a painter I've tried to sign before on multiple occasions," Head Coach Éamon Zayed said. "He has shown his potential, but I feel like he hasn't reached the level I believe he can reach. It's my job to get the best version of Alexis Cerritos this season and help him show everyone in USL what he can do. On his day, he's unplayable against and I hope he has many, many days like that here at Corpus Christi. I've no doubt the fans will enjoy watching Alexis compete and score many goals for us this season."
Alexis is the son of former MLS journeyman Ronald Cerritos, who made over 200 appearances in the league.
