Tailgate party added to June 17 game events

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers are excited to announce that the "Sam's Town/Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson Tailgate" will precede the June 17 "Support Our Troops" game at the DeSoto Civic Center. Kickoff for the Xplorers/Birmingham is at 7 pm with the tailgating taking place from four to six in the north parking at the DCC.
Sam's Town Casino will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs and chips free of charge. Southern Thunder Harley-Davidson in Horn Lake is helping to bring Drake and Zeke from 98-1 The Max out for a live radio remote. ABATE of Mississippi-Northwest Chapter is organizing a bike rally that will be taking place simultaneously in the DCC parking lot. Admission for the tailgating event is free.
Several other events and promotions are planned as part of the "Support the Troops" theme.
The first 500 children 12 and under will receive a collectible youth jersey courtesy of First Tennessee. Also, the first 1000 fans will receive miniature American flags, the first 1500 fans will receive Miller Lite can koozies and ADT will be handing out CheerStix as fans come through the doors.
Sam's Town is also sponsoring special military-themed jerseys that the Xplorers will be wearing during the game. The jerseys will then be made available through a live auction following the game with the proceeds going to the DeSoto County Military Emergency Relief Fund. That fund has been established, and is being organized, by the Northwest Mississippi Association of Realtors.
Money is also being raised for the Relief Fund through game ticket sales. Fans can purchase special $15 tickets for the game with $6 of that going to the fund. To purchase the special fundraising tickets, fans need to call the Xplorers' office at 662-342-1755 prior to game day.
Troop 1687 Transportation Company of Southaven will be honored as they prepare to be deployed, new recruits will be sworn in by the Army at halftime and, in general, all of our armed forces will be recognized during the game.
On top of all of this, the Xplorers, ABC 24 and Memphis area Giant TV stores will be giving away a big screen TV at halftime. People can register to win the television, as well as Xplorers tickets, at the four Memphis area Giant TV locations.
