Expansion Shock maintain top spot in week 11 poll

June 7, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The expansion Spokane Shock have maintained their No. 1 ranking in the Weekly Coaches Poll for the second consecutive week, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. The Shock collected 250 of a possible 264 points and 15-of-23 first place votes in securing the top position. Spokane defeated the Central Valley Coyotes this past Saturday at home, 61-59, to improve to a league-best 8-1.

The Memphis Xplorers (8-2, 235 points, 4 first place votes) moved up one spot this week from No. 3 to No. 2 after a 73-54 road win at Stockton. The rest of the top five remains unchanged from a week ago, with Florida (7-2, 214 points, 4 first place votes) being voted in at No. 3, Oklahoma City (7-2, 204 points) at No. 4 and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (7-2, 197 points) at No. 5.

The Week 11 schedule features just one matchup of Top 12 teams. On Saturday, No. 4 Oklahoma City plays at No. 7 Tulsa. In their first meeting this season, the Yard Dawgz piled on an af2 season-high and team record 90 points on their in-state rivals in a 90-54 home victory. Oklahoma City's point total was the 7th highest single game output in league history.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
