Portland Beavers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Beavers gave up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, including three doubles, as the Tacoma Rainiers (42-55) defeated the Beavers, 6-4 before 4,816 Saturday night at Cheney Stadium.

Cliff Bartosh (1-4) was credited the loss, allowing three earned runs in just 2/3 of an inning in a relief role.

With the Beavers on top, 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Tacoma racked up four runs on five hits to take the lead. Julio Mosquera knocked in the go-ahead run on a two-out double to left-center.

Givanni Carrera came on in the ninth for the save, striking out Mark Quinn with the tying runs on base.

After Saturday's loss, the Beavers (48-49) fell back below .500 and two games behind first-place Edmonton in the North Division. It is the furthest the Beavers have been out of first place all season.

Portland had chances to score, scattering 13 hits over nine innings, but could only squeeze out four runs in the effort.

Yamid Haad went 2-for-4 for the Beavers, registering two doubles and an RBI.

Tacoma starting pitcher Brian Falkenborg was pulled after one inning with an apparent injury. Randy Williams (1-1), one of five Tacoma pitchers used, got the win for the Rainiers.
