NASHVILLE — The visiting Tucson Sidewinders used a pair of back-to-back ninth inning doubles to record a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Sounds on Sunday evening at Greer Stadium. The win earned the Sidewinders a split of the four-game series and wrapped up the Sounds' 10-game homestand.

Despite the loss, Nashville (55-41) enters the All-Star break with a 2 ½ game lead over New Orleans in the PCL East Division. They finished the homestand with a 7-3 mark.

Tucson opened the scoring in the second inning when leftfielder Doug DeVore reached on a one-out fielding error by Sounds third baseman Mike Gulan then trotted home one batter later when catcher Brad Cresse belted an 0-1 Ryan Vogelsong offering over the wall in right-center for his ninth home run of the season to give the Sidewinders a 2-0 advantage.

Nashville pulled within one in the third with an unearned run before tying the contest in the seventh against reliever Lee Marshall. Humberto Cota ripped a one-out single to left and moved to second on Marshall's failed pickoff attempt. Shortstop Tomas de la Rosa plated the Sounds backstop with an RBI single to right to knot the contest at 2-2.

Sounds reliever Mike Gonzalez opened the ninth by striking out DeVore before giving way to Pat Mahomes. Cresse and Tim Olson greeted the right-hander with consecutive doubles; the second two-bagger gave the visitors a 3-2 advantage. Rob Mackowiak touched Tucson closer Brian Bruney for a leadoff double down the left-field line in the bottom of the ninth, but Bruney recovered to retire the next three hitters in order to nail down his sixth save.

de la Rosa finished 2-for-4 with the lone RBI for Nashville while Tike Redman was held hitless in four at-bats to snap his hitting streak at eight games.

Tucson reliever – and former Pittsburgh Pirates hurler – Dennys Reyes (1-0) picked up his first Triple-A victory with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, while Mahomes (6-4) was tagged with the loss for Nashville.

The Sounds join the entire Pacific Coast League for the Triple-A All-Star break the next three days before opening their longest road trip of the season on Thursday in Omaha, where they'll take on the Royals in the opener of a four-game set. Omaha currently holds a 7-5 advantage in the season series. Left-hander Dave Williams (3-1, 1.03) will start the 7:05 p.m. series opener on Thursday and face Omaha right-hander Ryan Baerlocher (3-4, 4.29).

Nashville moves on to make stops in Oklahoma and Colorado Springs before returning home to Greer Stadium on Tuesday, July 29 to open an eight-game homestand against Albuquerque.
