Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The first five Gary SouthShore batters reached base in the game, and the RailCats scored four in the frame as they went on to beat the T-Bones 8-1 in front of 6,369 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.
All told, in this fourth straight loss for Kansas City, T-Bones starter Brian Murphy (0-2) gave up six runs in the first two innings. After scoring four runs on five hits in the first, the RailCats added two in the second on a two-run homer by Cristian Guerrero. It was the RailCats' first home run of the season.
"You can't come out and give up four in the first and expect to win a ballgame," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "Besides that, we didn't have too many people doing things right out there."
Kansas City's offense struggled, with one hit through the first three innings, but threatened in the fourth as Ray Sadler scored on a triple from Devin Goodwin, who was a home run away from the cycle during the game. That was the only run the T-Bones could put together.
RailCats starter Alain Quijano recorded his second win of the season - Gary SouthShore manager Greg Tagert's 850th career win.
The T-Bones finish the homestand and series against Gary SouthShore on Sunday night at 7:05. Tickets are available for Fireworks Night by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
