Laredo Lemurs News Release

Fargo, ND - The Lemurs posted their second shut-out win of the young season and improved to an American Association best 10-0 with an 8-0 win at Fargo-Moorhead.

Laredo started the day's scoring at Newman Outdoor Field with a five run third inning. Left fielder Marcos Rodriguez led off with a single. After an out, second baseman Jake Opitz singled to advance Rodriguez to second. Two batters later, center fielder Sawyer Carroll drove in Rodriguez with a two-out single to score the game's first run. With runners at the corners, designated hitter John Allen then singled home Opitz to make it a 2-0 game. The two-out hit parade continued as right fielder Jon Gaston followed with the biggest blow of the game, a three-run home run, to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Lemurs would add two more runs in the fifth and a single tally in the sixth. With an out in the fifth, short stop Jimmy Mojica singled and then moved to second base on a single from Sawyer Carroll. John Allen collected his second hit of the day with a double to drive in both Mojica and Carroll for a three RBI game. In the sixth, a Marcos Rodriguez double drove in Harrison Kain for the final run.

Laredo banged out twelve base hits in the win. Left-handed starter Ryan Sasaki was equally as good on the mound. Sasaki (1-0) worked a season high seven innings while yielding only three base hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Edwin Walker pitched two innings of relief with four strikeouts to preserve the win. Fargo-Moorhead's Taylor Stanton (1-1) took the loss. Stanton went five and two-thirds and was tagged for eight runs (all earned) on eleven hits. He struck out four and walked just one.

At the plate, Jimmy Mojica, Sawyer Carroll, John Allen, and Marcos Rodriguez all had at least two hits in the victory. The Lemurs are now 10-0 as they start a three-game series at North Division first-place Winnipeg Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.laredolemurs.com.
