T-Bones Sweep The Flyers At Alexian Field

July 2, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Kansas City Monarchs News Release

The Kansas City T-Bones (25-16) defeated the Schaumburg Flyers (14-26), 5-2, Thursday night to complete a four game series sweep on '80s Night.

Both teams scored early but the T-Bones' three runs in the first inning were too much of a hill for the Flyers to climb.

Kansas City hurler Steven Stewart (4-1) started his first game since college and impressed, tossing 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out six and walking two. Dustin Glant was on the hill for the Flyers and took the loss. Glant went six innings, giving up nine hits and four runs while striking out three.

The T-Bones got Stewart some early run support, putting up three on the top of the first. The inning started off with a Keanon Simon single, which was followed by a Jacob Blackwood single. Then a Ray Sadler single smoked to left brought home Simon and a Jim Fasano double brought in both Blackwood and Sadler, making the score 3-0 Kansas City.

The Flyers struck back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Josh Burrus led the inning off with a Travis Brown groundout. The center fielder stole third for his third swipe of the year. Burrus scored when Joey Gomes grounded out to third, bringing the score to 3-1 T-Bones.

Kansas City picked up another run in the third after a Sadler single , who was later brought in by a Brian Joynt base hit. The Flyers got one back in the sixth as Richard Mercado sent a home run deep over the left field wall.

The T-Bones would tack on another run in the seventh, which would be enough for closer Franklin Perez who picked up the save.

The Flyers head to Rockford Friday night for a quick game against the Riverhawks.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the T-Bones. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:55 PM with the game to follow.
