Walker, Goldeyes Stifle JackHammers 4-1

JOLIET, IL - Ace Walker pitched eight innings of one run ball on three days rest to lead the Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-18) over the Joliet JackHammers (19-21) 4-1 Friday night at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers dropped to 4-5 this season against the Goldeyes with six games left in the regular season series.

Winnipeg started the scoring in the second against Todd Privett (3-3). Dee Brown reached on a fielder's choice after Vince Harrison led off the frame with a single. Luis Alen launched his second homer of the series over the left field wall for the 2-0 lead.

The Goldeyes added another in the fourth for a 3-0 cushion. Brown singled and Wes Long lined a two out double down the left field line to score Brown all the way from first base.

Joliet picked up their lone run in the fifth on a Roberto Mena solo home run, the lone tally against Walker. The Goldeyes starter went eight frames allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The JackHammers best scoring opportunity came in the second against Walker, loading the bases with two outs. Ryan Wehrle singled and Mena doubled off the wall with Joe Billick walking to load the bases. Jonathan Wyatt then lined out to Harrison at third base to end the threat.

Privett was tagged with the loss despite tossing 7.1 innings, surrendering three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Bobby Korecky came on in the ninth and retired the side in order for his sixth save, throwing only eight pitches.

Mena and Wyatt each collected two hits while Long, Alen and Price Kendall each picked up two hits for Winnipeg.

The JackHammers will send Bear Bay (3-2) to the bump to end a three game losing streak. Zach Baldwin (0-0) will make the spot start for Winnipeg. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
