
Fielders Fall to Gary in Official Home Openere

Lake County Fielders News Release
The Lake County Fielders (15-23) had a successful first home game in Zion last night despite the result on the scoreboard as they fell to the Gary SouthShore Railcats 11-4. Over 6800 attended the game, the Fielders first at their new ballpark in Zion.
The RailCats (22-19) played spoiler running the home opener, gathering a franchise record 23 hits off Lake County pitching.
The RailCats jumped out to an early lead in the second inning lead after Mike Rhode doubled home Louis Ott who had singled earlier in the inning. They tacked on runs in the third and fourth inning as well off Lake County starter Ryan Bicondoa who didn't figure in the decision. Gary went up 4-0 in the sixth inning after Ott singled and stole second then advanced to third base on a throwing error by Anthony Esquer. Ott was driven in by a Mike Rhode single.
The Fielders got all their runs in the seventh inning when they batted around in the order sending ten men to the plate. Esquer and Kyle Higgins led off the inning with singles followed by Joseph Ramos getting hit with a pitch by starter Willie Glen who threw against the Fielders for the third time this season. Amos Ramon followed with a bases loaded single scoring two and cutting the lead in half. Josh Short and Brian McFall chipped in with RBI singles themselves and the Fielders received a standing ovation after they tied the score at 4.
Gary put up five runs in the 8th and added two more insurance runs in the ninth inning to seal the victory. Aaron Cook got the win for Gary improving his record to 3-1 while Matt Schweitzer took the loss, his first of the season after getting roughed up for 5 runs, two of which were earned, and giving up 5 hits in just two-thirds of an inning.
Gary snapped Lake County's four game winning streak. The Fielders will head to Rockford tomorrow to take on the Riverhawks for the first time this season. Zach Ward will get the start Saturday to try and put Lake County back in the win column.
