T-Bones Snap Flyers Six Game Win Streak
July 7, 2006 - Northern League (NL)
Schaumburg Flyers News Release
The Kansas City T-Bones welcomed the Flyers to Community America Ballpark by beating them 8-12 and snapping Schaumburg's six-game win streak.
The game started out on a good note as the Flyers took the early lead. Chris Weekly was able to double down the left field line with only one out and would later come around to score on a Ben Van Iderstine single into right field, to take the 1-0 lead after the top of the first.
The lead didn't last long however, as the T-Bones tied it up in the bottom half of the first on a Greg Jacobs solo shot over the right field wall with two down in the inning. Raymond Jenkins was able to get out of the inning, after a walk to Charles Peterson, by striking out Eddie Pearson.
The score would remain tied at one, until the third inning. The T-Bones were able to explode for eight runs in the bottom half of the third, taking a lead that would never be given back.
Kansas City sent a total of 11 batters to the plate as they were able to put together four hits and three walks on their way to 9-1 lead. An error by Rob Watson at second base with two outs let the inning run longer than it should have as six of the eight runs by Kansas City were unearned in the inning.
The Flyers started to mount a comeback in the fifth inning, when Chris Weekly hit the second grand slam of the season for Schaumburg off of the T-Bones starter Hank Woodman. The grand slam was followed by a Cole solo shot to center field, as the Flyers hit back-to-back homeruns for the first time this season.
That was the biggest inning the Flyers were able to put together as they would go on to put one run up in the sixth and another up in the seventh on their way to a 8-12 loss in the first game of the series with Kansas City.
The Flyers and T-Bones will battle again tomorrow night for the second game of the three game series when the Flyers will try for their 30th win of the season.
