T-Bones End RailCats Win Streak

Gary, IN - The RailCats five-game win streak came to a close with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Kansas City T-Bones on Tuesday night. Gary SouthShore dropped to 45-31, while Kansas City improved to 32-45.

Lucas Irvine dominated the RailCats to earn his sixth win of the season. Irvine retired 15 of 16 hitters after Ryan Brockett's double to lead off the third inning. He struck out eight and walked none in a seven and a third inning effort.

Kansas City took the lead 1-0 in the top of the first when Jairo Perez singled in Kennard Jones with two outs off of RailCats starter James Adkins.

The T-Bones picked up a pair of unearned runs in the second. Adkins hit Luis Rivera with one out and nearly got out of the inning clean, but, Kennard Jones' ground ball to second was mishandled at second by Ryan Brockett put runners at the corners. Justin Bass and Matt Padgett each drove in a run with back-to-back singles to take a 3-0 advantage for the visitors.

James Adkins allowed another in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Jairo Perez. Adkins took his third loss of the year. In five innings he allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks.

The RailCats mustered one run in the eighth inning, with a two-out single to right by Mike Massaro. Massaro's hit scored Adam Klein who singled to extend his on-base streak to 31 games the batter before.

Taylor Sewitt and Estevan Uriegas each delivered a pair of scoreless innings in relief.

Reid Fronk, just activated off the inactive list prior to the game, went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts in his RailCats debut. Prior to the game, the RailCats activated Fronk, placed RHP Osvaldo Rodriguez on irrevocable waivers and transfered Ari Ronick to the inactive list; retroactive to July 22.

Tomorrow, the T-Bones and RailCats complete their three-game series with a rubber match at U. S. Steel Yard. RHP Morgan Coombs (4-2, 5.30 ERA) goes for the RailCats; Kansas City will start RHP Ethan Cole (0-5, 5.74 ERA).
