Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights will kick off its fourth indoor soccer season on Saturday, when it will take on Eastern Division rival the Baltimore Blast at 7:35 p.m. EST at the Royal Farms Arena. It's the Silver Knights' first campaign in the newly formed Major Arena Soccer League.
Syracuse enters the 2014-2015 MASL regular season looking to build on the success the club achieved in 2013-2014. Last campaign, the Salt City club reached the postseason for the first time in franchise history with a 12-8 regular season record.
The Silver Knights and Blast last met in the 2014 MISL Semifinals, with the 2013 MISL Champions edging Syracuse 2-1 in a Best of 3 series. The Knights went down 20-7 in the first leg at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena, but then went on to push the Semifinal to a deciding Game 3 with a 9-6 win over the Blast. In the final game, Baltimore advanced to the MISL Finals with a 4-3 victory.
The Silver Knights went 1-3 against the Blast in the 2013-2014 regular season. The sides first met this year on January 19 at the War Memorial, which resulted in a 9-8 win for the Orange, Silver and Black. Defender Bo Jelovac scored the game-winner with 58 seconds left.
Coach Tommy Tanner's squad will field a team on Saturday that closely resembles the successful Knights lineup of 2013-2014. There was very little roster movement for the club, including the return of First Team All-MISL performer MF Kenardo Forbes. The Jamaican scored 24 total-goals with 14 assists in his breakout year.
After Saturday's season opener, the Syracuse Silver Knights will have its home opener at the War Memorial on Friday, November 21st when they will face the California based club, Ontario Fury.
