Syracuse Mets to Appear at RPM Raceway at Destiny USA

SYRACUSE, NY - Members of the Syracuse Mets will suit up and enjoy racing as a team at RPM Raceway on Thursday, August 15th. Members of the team will use this opportunity to race against each other in a fun way to build on team chemistry as the season draws to a close. Players will also sign autographs and take pictures with fans. There will be four races, the first beginning at 11:15 a.m. At 12 p.m. there will be a meet and greet with fans and the media.

"Our Front Office spent an afternoon racing and bonding at RPM Raceway earlier this summer, and we had such a great time, we wanted our players to get in on the action too," said Jason Smorol, general manager.

The list of Syracuse Mets currently scheduled to appear is Tony DeFrancesco, manager, home run-hitter Travis Taijeron, and Colton Plaia, catcher.

The goal is to get 16 players to race in two separate heats, creating a bracket of the best times and a consolation bracket of the remaining times. Due to the fluctuation in the roster and personal training regiments it is difficult to announce a full list of players attending the event. Originally, Chris Mazza, Tim Tebow and Ryan O'Rourke were signed up to participate. Tebow is in Florida rehabbing an injury, Mazza has been called up to the New York Mets and O'Rourke is no longer with the Mets.

In between races the players will have the opportunity to interact with the fans.

The Syracuse Mets return home for a series against the Durham Bulls from August 13th-15th and the Norfolk Tides from August 16th-18th. Tickets are available during regular office hours at the Onondaga Coach Ticket office at NBT Bank Stadium or online all the time at syracusements.com.
