Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks officially announced they have signed midfielder Karsten Hanlin today.

Hanlin, 24, joins the Switchbacks after appearing in two matches for the Real Monarchs SLC in his second season with the club. He made one start, totaling 87 minutes during the 2018 campaign. The six-foot midfielder is in his second professional season after playing at the University of Denver for four years. The native of Centennial, Colorado earned the honors of 2016 Summit League First Team and 2016 Summit League All-Tournament Team during 78 appearances, the third most in the University of Denver's Division I history. Hanlin will be available for the Switchbacks next game on June 9th.

"Karsten will be a great addition to the team. He will add much needed competition and depth in many positions since he is very versatile," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "He comes from an organization in the Monarchs that were top of the league last season and Karsten has the right mentality to come in and help us immediately."

The Switchbacks return home to face the Swope Park Rangers on June 9th at 6:00 PM. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a red or blue Saber courtesy of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services. The Switchbacks will also be wearing Chewbacca warm-up jerseys that will be available to buy with all proceeds going directly to the Penrose-St. Francis Cancer Research Foundation. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here. Fans 21+ can get $1 beer the first 30 minutes when gates open at 5:00 PM.
