Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC were looking for a second victory against the Sacramento Republic FC, but had to settle for a draw.

The Switchbacks tied the Republic FC 3-3 on Friday night at Sand Creek Stadium.

"I'm pretty frustrated right now," said Switchbacks FC Team Captain Luke Vercollone. "We let two points slip. They are a good team, but we have to do better to hold the lead. I'm definitely disappointed. We have to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Hopefully we can learn from it and push on."

After an hour and twenty minute lightning delay, the Switchbacks found themselves on the defensive two minutes in, when the Republic FC's Thomas Stewart (#10) placed a shot into the top left of the net.

Twenty minutes later, a penalty in the box set up Switchbacks' Luke Vercollone (#4) for his first goal of the match.

In the 38th minute, it was Vercollone again with a break away goal from an assist from Chandler Hoffman (#15).

Hoffman got his goal in the 78th minute thanks to a rebounded shot. That put the Switchbacks up 3-1.

However, the Republic FC's Mickey Daly (#21) put a shot through the middle in the 81st minute and Ivan Mirkovic (#18) hit the ball into the right side to tie the match in the 89th minute to break Switchbacks hearts.

"It was great to get a goal and an assist tonight, but we have to do a better job managing the game, especially with a 3-1 lead," said Switchbacks FC's Chandler Hoffman. "We will regroup and prepare for a big road trip."

The Switchbacks (12-6-3) are still leading the USL Western Conference with 39 points, while Sacramento Republic FC (10-8-4) is five points behind.
