Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - Made by supporters, for the supporters. Members from the Trailheads (COS), Red Fury (PHX), Wasatch Legion (SLC), and The Curse (NM) worked together in order to create a rivalry between the four teams uniquely connected together by the four corners region. With the addition of New Mexico United in the USL Championship this year, the Four Corners Cup is brand new in 2019 and ready for the first of many years.
The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, New Mexico United, Phoenix Rising FC, and the Real Monarchs SLC all play each other twice this season, once home and once away. The champion will be decided by which team accumulates the most points from games against another team from the four corners region.
"One the first things we all agreed on was to make the trophy entirely supporter driven," said Jason Smith of the Trailheads. "All four teams have a passionate and active supporter base, and the Four Corners Cup represents our love of not only our teams, but our communities. We are all geographically isolated from other USL Championship teams, yet we are connected by the unique boundary."
Although the Four Corners Cup is similar to the Rocky Mountain Cup and the Cascadia Cup, it is unlike any other rivalry in the world. Consisting of four teams, the supporter driven trophy will create higher stakes in six regular season games in the USL Championship. This year will see new rivalries and traditions being built in a historic chase to earn the Four Corners Cup.
