Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC win big, despite a tough field!"Both teams had to deal with tough conditions," said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "It was a battle, it was hard fought, it wasn't pretty, but we got a great win. We had the majority of the play, and to finish it off with five goals was indicative of the game."
The driving rains we've seen lately may have drenched the pitch at Sand Creek Stadium, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the Switchbacks FC players. They came out hard right from the start of the match and never let up, and then in the 2nd half, things got really exciting.
In the 48th minute, the Switchbacks FC's Luke Vercollone (#4) started the scoring run, off of an assist from Aaron King (#18).
Then it was Saeed Robinson's (#11) turn when he crossed the shot into the left side of the net in the 75th minute.
Miguel Gonzalez (#10) was next thanks to a crossing pass by Saeed Robinson (#11) in the 85th minute.
Marty Maybin (#9) shot a long ball from 15 yards out in the 86th minute, giving the club its fourth goal of the night.
Finally, Luke Vercollone (#4) brought it full circle, with a header into the right side off of a pass from Miguel Gonzalez (#10).
"The win was a great team effort," said Switchbacks FC's Miguel Gonzalez. "We fought hard and fought for each other which gave us that great win!"
The two clubs last met on May 2nd in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the Switchbacks FC got the win 3-2, despite finishing the match with only 9 men on the pitch. Both clubs are part of the USL's Western Conference.
