Switchbacks FC Fall with One Man Advantage
July 4, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks FC were unable to convert their chances in a tight match against #3 ranked San Diego Loyal, and fell 3-2 at the end of their 4th of July match.
Only 72 hours out from their last match, the name of the game tonight for the Switchbacks was always going to be endurance, as the team worked to keep up their energy in the second of two closely scheduled matches. Despite San Diego Loyal holding a majority of possession in the opening fifteen minutes of play, the Switchbacks were still able to make it onto the board first, as #10 Hadji Barry scored a through ball to the center of the net off a midfield pass from #6 Cam Lindley.
The second half would start with Switchbacks up 1-0, but only five minutes in SD would get their first goal of the night as Kyle Adams would get a header off a corner kick. The Switchbacks built up their momentum after, and 42% of play in the next ten minutes would happen in San Diego's defensive third. Unfortunately in the 62nd minute SD would earn their second goal as Moshobane found the back of the net from the bottom left corner of the box.
A red card for a San Diego handball would give Switchbacks a penalty and an opportunity to tie up the game, which Barry was able to successfully do on a penalty kick. With a man up for the last twenty minutes, hope was high that the Switchbacks would get the lead, but in fact, San Diego would earn their third goal in the 80th minute, as Conway nabbed a rebound opportunity when Switchbacks goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell deflected the ball from a center shot. The game would end ten minutes later with the final score at 3'2.
The Switchbacks are away this weekend as they head to TX to take on El Paso Locomotive. They will be back at Weidner Field on the 15th as they take on LA Galaxy II for our Margaritaville Night.
