Switchbacks FC Fall 1-4 to Tulsa Roughnecks in 2017 USL Season Opener

Tulsa, OK - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fell 1-4 on the road to Tulsa Roughnecks FC in their 2017 USL season opener.

The Switchbacks looked bright early on as Shane Malcolm put the Switchbacks up 1-0 early in the 17th minute as a scramble in the box allowed Malcolm to find the bottom left corner. However, the lead wouldn't last long as Luthy as beat to his right on a free kick from the left side of the box in the 24th minute. The Roughnecks would make the best of a defensive error in the 31st minute to take a 2-1 lead that they would take into halftime.

Masta Kacher nearly found an equalizer in the 48th minute but he saw his shot saved. The Roughnecks would then double their lead as Justin Luthy was beat which left an open goal to give the Roughnecks a 3-1 lead. The Roughnecks would then take a 4-1 lead in the 78th minute that they would hold until the final whistle.

"After a good start going up 1-0 early - to then give up four weak goals is tough to swallow at the end of day," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "But, we will regroup for OKC in our home opener and rebound with a result."

"We got out to a great start but unfortunately, from that point, we mentally struggled to keep the game in our favor.," said midfielder Chris James. "Going forward we will turn those aspects of our game around but as players, we must take responsibility for the poor result. Come OKC we will come together to play our style we know we can play."

The Switchbacks will look to rebound as they host Oklahoma City Energy FC next Saturday, April 1st at 6:00 PM at Weidner Field in the Switchbacks' home opener. Tickets are available and can be purchased here.
