Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks fell 1-3 to Swope Park Rangers at home after the match was delayed due to weather.
Looking to bounce back from a tough run of form, the Switchbacks hosted Swope Park Rangers to begin a three-match homestand in their push for a third consecutive playoff appearance. The match began as a storm passed through Colorado Springs. After just under 18 minutes of play, the match went into a delay due to severe weather and lightning in the area. The teams retook the field nearly an hour after the delay began. Swope Park wasted no time in the restart as Omar Ballo, Kharlton Belmar, and Nansel Selbol scored three quick goals less than three minutes apart to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. The Switchbacks struggled as the winds picked up and tough field conditions left them vulnerable leading to the goals. The Switchbacks would have a handful of chances but the conditions made it tough to do anything as they headed into the locker room down 0-3 at the break.
"We lost the game coming out of the break," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We weren't focused and didn't do what we talked about doing coming out of the break, and it cost us. Giving up three goals in quick succession just wasn't good enough. There will be a lot of changes coming up for our next match."
The Switchbacks struggles continued in the second half as they battled the rain, winds leading to tough conditions. Both sides saw passes, tackles, and crosses all go by the wayside with a water-logged that made play incredibly difficult. The Switchbacks were able to get one back in stoppage time as Pascal Eboussi found the back of the net on a Toby Uzo cross. The Switchbacks would fall 1-3 and remain in 10th place in the Western Conference with three games remaining.
The Switchbacks return home Saturday, September 30 at 6:00 PM as they take on playoff contender Orange County SC. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a high-quality Switchbacks FC tote bag courtesy of The Gazette. Tickets start at just $12
