Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced today that they had acquired Goalkeeper Luis Zamudio on loan from D.C. United for the 2024 season. The move is pending league and federation approval.
"I'm extremely excited to be joining the Switchbacks! I can't wait to get to work and help the team as much as I can on and off the field," said Zamudio. "I know this group has a lot of potential and we can win a lot of games this year for all the fans. I am also very excited to be at Weidner Field and bring joy to the beautiful city of Colorado Springs."
Zamudio, 25, most recently played for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on a loan from D.C. United. Throughout the 2023 season, he held an 85.7% save success rate and had four clean sheets.
In 2016, Zamudio first started his career playing for Club America Premier in the Mexican Football League's lower divisions. After playing there for four seasons, he moved to USL League One playing for North Texas FC in 2020 and Fort Lauderdale CF in 2021.
Zamudio made a jump to the MLS and was signed on with D.C. United in 2022. This goalkeeper then was sent to play for D.C. United's USL Championship Affiliate team, Loudoun United FC, making 27 appearances, racking up a total of 103 saves and seven clean sheets.
"Luis Zamudio is a fantastic keeper who hasn't had a chance to reach the next level consistently. His presence and control in the box are a big thing for the staff, and we think he can come in and compete right away for the starting spot," said Sporting Director, Stephen Hogan. "We are excited to see him work and welcome him to Colorado"
