GAME OF THE WEEK:

The Swing were down 5-1 after seven innings last Friday, August 3, but an eight-run eighth inning, highlighted by Christian Reyes, propelled Quad Cities to an 11-5 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps. Reyes was 4-for-5 on the night, including a three-run home run and a two-run single during the eighth-inning rally. Mike Schellinger took the win out of the bullpen, allowing one run over 2 1/3 innings and striking out three.

Christian Reyes is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, during which he has hit .382 with 8 RBI.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

In two starts at South Bend and West Michigan last week, righthander Clayton Mortensen struck out 14, walked only three, and allowed just two earned runs. In his 17 innings since joining the Swing on July 17, Mortensen has 23 strikeouts against only four walks. Mortensen, the Cardinals supplemental-first round pick in the 2007 draft, did not earn the decision in either of the Swing victories following his starts on July 30 and August 4.

Clayton Mortensen, a 6'4" righty out of Gonzaga University, had a 1.77 ERA with Batavia (low-A) before joining Quad Cities.
