Sweets Take Game One from Kelowna in Four Hour Marathon
July 22, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, Wa- The Sweets tied up the season series with the Kelowna Falcons by beating them Tuesday night 9-4. The win also pushed the Sweets above the .500 mark (19-18) for the first time in the month of July.
The Sweets got on the scoreboard first in the second and scored one in third and fourth as well before putting up three in the fifth. The Falcons fought back and took the lead twice, in the third and the fifth, before the Sweets went on top for good in the fifth.
The Sweets would tack on three more runs down the stretch and win it 9-4, but one of the focuses of the game was the fourth inning.
A 2-0 pitch to Sweets' catcher Willie MacIver got away from the catcher for the Falcons and caught the home plate umpire in the left arm. He would have to leave the game with an injury and the game had a delay of over 35 minutes.
During that time, the two teams competed in various fun competitions. It was a great show put on for the 1540 at Borleske Stadium. It all started with a dance-off and then the teams also competed in human jousting, rock-paper-scissors, pillow fights, and 3-on-3 football.
After a four hour, four minute contest, the Sweets came away with a much needed win that put them just one game back in the wild-card race. They were helped out by Yakima Valley and Corvallis losses on Tuesday as well.
Walla Walla will go for the series victory tomorrow as they send Jared Zill to the mound at 7:05pm. The Mariner Moose will also be at the game and you can get tickets at wallawallasweets.com.
