Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (24-22) took down the Cowlitz Black Bears (21-25) 7-3 on Friday night.
The Black Bears jumped out in front in the second on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. It was the only run, an unearned run, that Jackson Weeg (Emory) allowed on the day in his first appearance since July 16. He picked up his sixth win on the season by throwing five innings.
The Sweets tied it in the second on a suicide squeeze by Coby Kauhaahaa (Cal State Fullerton) and took the lead in the third with the same play, but laid down by Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga).
In the sixth, the Sweets exploded for five runs. RBIs were picked up by Jarren Duran (Long Beach State), Nick Vigo (Cal State Monterey Bay) and two by Willie MacIver (Washington). The Sweets scored more runs in the sixth inning on Friday than they did all series against Victoria.
Grant Ford (Nevada) pitched well in his two innings of relief also. He only allowed one base runner on an error by Kauhaahaa.
The Sweets will take on the Black Bears against tomorrow at 7:05 P.M. at Borleske. Ryan Anderson (Nevada) will take the hill for game two.
