Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, Wa- Baseball is a tough game. Sometimes, there are days were there are lapses in a long season. Today was one of those days for the Sweets. They dropped the first game of the three game set to the Yakima Valley Pippins 12-8 on Monday night.
The Sweets (13-15) started the ballgame off well and built a five run lead into the fifth inning. The Pippins (17-11) then fought back with three in the sixth and it was 6-3 Sweets after that frame.
Then came the seventh inning. The Pippins sent 14 batter to the plate and scored nine runs on six hits. Out of the 12 runs scored by the Pippins, eight were unearned. The Sweets defense struggled after building the early lead and had four errors.
The starting pitcher for the Sweets, Jared Zill, pitched a solid five and a third innings. He only gave up two runs, but both were unearned and only yielded three hits while striking out five. Kyle Nixon was also solid on the offensive side, going 3-5 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI.
The Sweets will look to turn things around as they send Kyle Molnar (0-0) to the mound tomorrow. He will be countered by Matt Campbell (2-0) for the Pippins and the game is slated for 7:05pm.
