Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues returned home from a three game losing streak to get back to winning ways in no time at all. The Rogues shut out the visiting Corvallis Knights to win game one of a three game series 4-2. The win gives the Rogues a 12-13 league record while the Knights drop to 10-15 in the South Division.

The Rogues wasted little time getting runs on the board as they led 1-0 after the first inning. However, both sides displayed solid defense on the mound as it took the Rogues until the sixth inning to add to their one run. Left fielder Dan Mayer hit his eighth league home run of the season and the Rogues took a 2-0 lead before adding their final two runs in the eighth inning.

However, two errors in the top of the ninth led to two runs for the Knights and it looked briefly like the Rogues were headed for another last second loss. The home side managed to hang on though and record the 4-2 win in game one.

Mayer led the Rogues offensively with four at bats for two hits, one run, two RBI's, and one homer. Mayer's homer was his eighth of the season and both a team and league leading total while his season batting average sitting at .360. Center fielder Derron Davis also put on a solid offensive showing in his two at bats for one hit and two runs and holds a .357 batting average for the season.

Pitcher Billy Olson was the Rogues stand out performer of the night in his seven innings on the mound. Olson gave up no hits and no runs while walking three and striking out five while his season ERA improves to 0.60. Both Justin Mulvaney and DJ Wilson closed out the game for the Rogues.

Knights pitcher Alex Nesbitt recorded the loss with six innings pitched giving up four hits for two runs, both earned, while walking four and striking out six. Olson claims the win with tonight's victory.

The Rogues and the Knights face off again in game two of the three game series tomorrow night at Harry and David Field. First pitch is set for 6:35pm.
