Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash- The Walla Walla Sweets (3-2) and the Kelowna Falcons (4-1) went back and forth until the Falcons pulled away and won it in the 11th inning, 4-3 on Wednesday night. The win gave the Falcons the series victory.

The scoring started in the top half of the fourth inning for the Falcons when they scored two. It was the second straight game they had jumped out in front of the Sweets for a two-run lead.

The Sweets then countered in the bottom half of the inning when Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga) drove in Connor Doyle (San Diego) with a sacrifice fly. That made the score 2-1.

Walla Walla took the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Zach Weisz (Cal State Fullerton) drove in the tying run on a safety squeeze bunt and Chris McCready (College of the Canyons) knocked in the go-ahead run with a double two pitches later. That gave the Sweets a 3-2 lead.

Kelowna tied it in the next frame on an RBI single and the two teams then traded scoreless innings until the bottom of the tenth when it appeared that the Sweets were in good shape to win. They had runners on first and second with one out. Doyle grounded out to short, but the runner at second, Clayten Ayers (Georgia College and State), thought there were two outs and rounded third. He was tagged out to the end the inning. Kelowna scored in the next frame and the game finished 4-3 in favor of the Falcons.

Anthony Acosta (Chaminade) got the start for the Sweets and went six innings, giving up five hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out five. It was the longest outing for a Sweets starter this season.

Patrick Chung (Gonzaga) had an impressive debut for the Sweets as well. He finished 3-4 with a run scored after arriving in Walla Walla last night.

The Sweets will send reigning West Coast League All-Star Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) to the hill tomorrow as Walla Walla tries to salvage a game in the series at 7:05.
