Corvallis Knights News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Left fielder Taylor Travess slammed two solo homers to lead the Corvallis Knights to a 2-0 West Coast League victory over Bellingham on Wednesday night.
Travess (Mt. Hood) connected in the first inning and then went deep again in the third. He now has three homers in the first two games of the series.
Travess was the first Knight to homer twice in the same game since Kevin Kline hit a pair in a 12-11 win over Walla Walla on June 15, 2014. Kline had four homers in three games from June 13 through June 15 that season.
The Knights (4-2 all, 3-2 WCL) got outstanding pitching from Grant Goodman (San Francisco), Ty Fox (Western Nevada), Tanner Howell (Dixie State) and Thomas Lalli (Occidental) in the combined shutout.
Goodman allowed three hits and had five strikeouts in four innings. Fox allowed one hit in three innings; Howell allowed one hit in the eighth and Lalli struck out the side in the ninth for his first save. They combined for 10 strikeouts altogether.
Corvallis pitchers have now blanked the Bells (1-4) over 17 consecutive innings after giving up two runs in the first inning of a 3-2 win on Tuesday night. They have allowed two or fewer runs in five of their six games this season.
The series concludes at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. Jacob Wong of Grand Canyon is the projected starter for Corvallis, opposed by Payton Mackin of Shoreline CC.
The Knights then head to Wenatchee this Friday-Sunday to conclude a streak of nine road games to start the season. Their home opener is June 14 against Kelowna, the 2015 WCL runner-up.
