Walla Walla Sweets News Release

Klamath Falls, OR- On a hot day in Klamath Falls, the Sweets pulled out of the parking lot with a win in game one. Though the final score was 6-5, the game seemed even closer than a one run game as blood pressure rose in the ninth inning.

The scoring started off with the Sweets putting up three runs in the top of the second. After a lead off walk to Dylan Wilbert, the next two hitters were retired. Walla Walla got another runner on with a two-out walk to Willie MacIver and then Jon Hechtner broke the scoreless tie with a RBI double that scored Wilbert from second and moved MacIver to third. The next hitter, Parker Coss, lined an 0-1 pitch back up the middle for a two-run single that made it 3-0.

The Gems grabbed a run back in the bottom half of the same inning with a RBI single by Harrison Ramey.

The Sweets then got back on the scoreboard in the fifth with a flurry of doubles. It started off with a one-out double by Coss. Kyle Nixon traded places with him on the next pitch to make the Sweets' lead 4-1. After a single by Kyle Dozier, Wilbert knocked them both in with a 2-RBI double. That made the score 6-1, Walla Walla.

The Gems would fight back with one run on an RBI ground out by Ty Wyatt in the 5th and added two more in the sixth on an error, one of six errors by the Sweets. With the score at 6-4 into the seventh, the Gems brought themselves within one run after another error by the Sweets on a Ramey single that allowed Kody Reynolds to score.

In a one run ballgame, the ninth got interesting. Cameron Richman came in for save and gave up a lead-off single to Jordan Abernathy. After a sacrifice bunt moved him to second, Reynolds singled to move him to third with one out. Richman buckled down to strikeout the next two batters and end the three-game losing streak for the Sweets.

The second game of the series will be tomorrow at Kiger Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
