WALLA WALLA, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (26-23) dropped game one 6-4 to the Wenatchee Applesox (18-31) on Tuesday night.

The Applesox jumped out to an early lead in the second on an RBI double, but the Sweets countered with a suicide squeeze that brought in two runs in the bottom half. The throw to first was beaten out by Ryan Johnston (UC Irvine) for a base hit.

Nick Nyquist (Gonzaga) knocked in the Sweets' third run with an RBI double in the third. He became the first Sweets with two doubles in the same game this season and finished 2-4.

Nick Vigo (Cal State Monterey Bay) launched his second home run on the season in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Sweets a 4-1 lead, but it was not enough.

In the sixth, the first eight batters for the Applesox reached. They scored five runs on only three hits and it took three pitchers to get out of the inning. Billy Dimlow (Emory) retired all three men he faced to get out of the inning.

The Sweets had an opportunity in the ninth with runners on the corners and one out, but Ben Baird (Washington) grounded into a double play to end the game.

With Bellingham winning tonight 4-1 over Kelowna, the Sweets are now 2.5 games back with five games left in the season.

Game two is tomorrow at 7:05. The Sweets will send Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) to the mound.
