The Bells pitching and defense came to play in their 4-1 win over the Kelowna Falcons Tuesday night. The Bells got off to a quick start with a run in the first. Andru Cardenas got things started with a triple to right and a batter later Chase Strumpf drove him in with a sac fly to right and the Bells had the early lead at 1-0.

Kelowna struck back for a run of their own in the 5th, Joey Crunkilton lined a solo homerun down the line in right to tie the game at 1-1. But Bellingham came back to score one of their own in the bottom of the 6th. Gunnar Schubert started things off with a single to center, and stole second base 2 batters later. The next at bat a wild pitch allowed Schubert to advance to 3rd and another wild pitch then allowed him to score, giving the Bells the lead at 2-1.

The Bells were able to tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th. Matt DiLeo led things off with a single to left center and a sac bunt from Gunnar Schubert moved him to second. Landon Riker then drove in Schubert with a line drive single to center. A walk to Chase Strumpf and a catcher's interference with Jake Vieth up to bat loaded the bases with Dean Lawson coming to the plate. A passed ball allowed Riker to score and the Bells had a lead they would not relinquish at 4-1.

Pitching and defense were key for the Bells tonight. Tyler Palm started and went 5 strong innings while only allowing one earned run on 3 hits. Jeff Gelinas came in for the next two innings and only allowed one hit while recording all six of his outs via strikeout. Josh Zavisubin pitched a 1-2-3 8th and Sam Hellinger slammed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth and earned his 11th save in the process.
