DULUTH, GA - The Georgia Swarm (4-3) take on the New York Riptide (2-4) at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024.
The Riptide aim to continue their winning streak, having secured a notable 15-13 victory against the Buffalo Bandits on the road. The New York Riptide, a youthful team with a potent offensive arsenal, is led by forward Jeff Teat. Teat has notched an impressive 38 points, including 18 goals, with 10 points stemming from power plays. The Riptide has executed 25 power plays, achieving a commendable 60% success rate. Keep an eye on other offensive players this weekend, including Connor Kearnan, the older brother of Swarm rookie Brady Kearnan, and Kiel Matisz, who collectively contributed 52 points.
After facing each other typically twice in a season, the Georgia Swarm and New York Riptide will only face each other once this regular season. The Swarm holds a solid 6-1 record against the Riptide, with their last defeat back on January 19, 2020, in an overtime match on Long Island.
In their recent face-off against Toronto, the Georgia Swarm put up 9 goals. Lyle Thompson led the charge with 6 points (3G, 3A), reaching the milestone as the third Indigenous player to surpass 300 career points. Teammate Andrew Kew followed suit with 4 points (2G, 2A), hitting his own milestone of 100 goals in the first half.
As of now, Lyle Thompson leads the NLL in goals with an impressive 20, while Shayne Jackson ranks third in points and assists league wide. On the defensive front, Adam Wiedemann leads the league with 13 blocked shots, closely followed by John Ranagan with 11. Brett Dobson continues to anchor in the net, securing his position as the leading goalie with 261 saves in the NLL.
Looking ahead, the Georgia Swarm will return to the Gas South Arena on February 2nd for Casino Night presented by Harrah's Cherokee Casino. The Swarm is set for a riveting rematch against the Vancouver Warriors (2-4) at 7:30 PM, promising an evening of thrilling lacrosse action."
