Greensboro Swarm News Release
(GREENSBORO, NC) - Theo Maledon earns a season-high 28 points to guide the Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, in a 122-110 win over the Maine Celtics on Saturday evening at the Novant Health Fieldhouse. With the victory, the Swarm split the weekend series against the Celtics to improve to 8-14, while Maine drops to 14-8.
Absent with an injury in the previous contest, Maledon, was an effective 7-of-11 from the field, 50-percent beyond the arc and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. The two-way guard's previous season-high of 26 points most recently came on January 21 against the Windy City Bulls.
On the opposite end of the floor, the Celtics rallied behind its big man, Luka Samanic, for a second consecutive night. Samanic opened the game with nine points in the first quarter to give Maine an eight-point advantage headed into the next period. The Swarm outscored the Celtics 31-24 in the second quarter and held a narrow seven-point lead at the half.
Following the break, Samanic was the catalyst that spurred a 17-7 run for Maine to open the third period. Greensboro's Jalen Crutcher countered the Celtics offensive onslaught with 13 points of his own in the quarter. Headed into the final 12 minutes of the contest, Maine possessed a slim one-point lead.
James Bouknight, on assignment from the Hornets, was in his bag early in the fourth quarter and gave the Swarm a 10-point advantage following a momentumous three-point play. Bouknight proceeded to have 16 points and 11 rebounds in the contest, his second double-double of the season. In addition to Bouknight's offensive spark, Jalen Crutcher and Xavier Sneed combined for 15 points in the closing period to seal the victory.
Crutcher earned his sixth game with 20-plus points this season with 23 points on Saturday evening. In total, five Swarm players finished with double-digit point performances: Maledon (28), Crutcher (23), Bryce McGowens (19), Bouknight (16) and Sneed (13).
The Celtics were led by Samanic on the offensive end with 27 points to end the night and saw two of its players earn double-doubles for the second consecutive night. Tony Snell had 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Kamar Baldwin had 13 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Swarm will be back in action against the College Park Skyhawks on March 2 for a matinee game starting at 11 am in College Park, GA.
