Keene Swamp Bats News Release

HOLYOKE, M.A.- The Keene SwampBats lost their fourth game of the season to the Valley Blue Sox by a score of 4-3 in ten innings. Keene opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, with an RBI single from Brandon Smith (Dayton) that scored Erick Delgado (St. Thomas) from third base. The Blue Sox tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of third inning with an RBI single from Tyler Kapuscinski, scoring shortstop Simon Whiteman. A solo homerun by Blue Sox' right fielder Ryan Perkins made the score 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

There wouldn't be any scoring until the top of the seventh inning, when SwampBats' designated hitter Cordell Dunn Jr. (Grayson County College) lined a single to left field, scoring Joe Breaux (Alabama), and Alex Carballo, making the score 3-2 SwampBats. Valley's second baseman Jaylen Smith hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Tanner Murphy from third in the bottom of the eighth inning, tying the score at three. That would be all of the scoring until the bottom of the tenth, wenSmith would then follow that with a walk-off bloop single into center field. Joe Breaux overran the ball as he attempted to slide and make the grab. Tanner Murphy scored from second base, resulting in a Keene loss.

Kyle Whitten (Virginia), tonight's starter, went four innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, while striking out four. Andrew Houde was superb once again for the SwampBats, as he did not give up a run in three innings of relief.

The SwampBats next game is on the road on Friday, June 15th against the Newport Gulls. You can catch that game on 104.1 FM AM 1220 Fox Sports Keene and necbl.com.
