KEENE, NH - Cordell Dunn Jr. (Grayson College) hit a go-ahead three-run shot in game one and delivered the walk-off single in game two as the Keene SwampBats (14-12) swept the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (6-18) in a doubleheader on Saturday night at Alumni Field in Keene.
The SwampBats picked up a 10-4 victory in game one and captured the nightcap by a 7-6 score.
Keene has won three straight and six of their last seven.
Game One
Dunn hit a go-ahead three-run shot in the bottom of the third inning to give the Keene SwampBats the lead for good in a 10-4 victory over the Winnipesaukee Muskrats in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
The home run was Dunn's second in as many nights and his third of the summer. The three-run blast gave Keene a 4-3 lead.
The Muskrats had taken a 3-1 lead in the top half of the frame with solo home runs from Steven Passatempo (UMass Lowell) and Po-Ho Huang (Fu Jen Catholic University).
Muskrats starter Patrick Clyne (LIU-Brooklyn) gave up eight runs on nine hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in 4.2 IP and was dealt the loss, dropping to 0-3.
Winnipesaukee grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the second as Reagan Teegarden (Virginia Tech) reached with a one-out single, went to second on a single, took third on an error and scored on a passed ball charged to SwampBats C Shamir Morales (Broward).
Alex Carballo (Kennesaw State) hit his second home run in as many nights and tied the game with a solo shot in the home half of the frame.
Lorenzo Hampton (Florida International) broke the game open for the SwampBats with a grand slam in the bottom half of the fifth inning to make it an 8-3 advantage. A pair of singles and a hit batsmen loaded the bases in the frame for the hosts.
The home run was Hampton's first of the summer.
Keene starter Jake McLinskey (Kennesaw State) allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking one and fanning seven in 6.0 IP. McLinskey earned the win to improve to 1-2.
In the home half of the sixth, Michael Woodworth (UConn) stretched the lead to 10-3 with a two-run blast to left. The home run was Woodworth's second of the season.
Game Two
Dunn struck again with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to score Joe Breaux (Alabama) and the Keene SwampBats completed the doubleheader sweep of the Winnipeasaukee Muskrats with a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.
Breaux started the seventh with a single, stole second and scored on Dunn's single to lift the SwampBats to the victory.
RHP T.J. Stuart (Manhattan) allowed the one run on two hits in two innings of work and was dealt the loss for the Muskrats, dropping to 0-2.
RHP Justin Willis (Vanderbilt) walked three and fanned three in 2.0 IP to earn the win for Keene and improve to 2-1.
Winnipesaukee had runners at second and third with one out in the top of the seventh, but Willis fanned Huang and Passatempo to end the inning and keep the game tied.
A solo shot from Ryan Burciaga (UT-Dallas) gave Winnipesaukee an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The SwampBats took the lead for the time being with a pair of runs in the second as Rudy Aguilar (St. John's) delivered an RBI single to score Alex Griffith (Francis Marion) and stole home later in the inning to make it a 2-1 game.
In the top of the third, Michael Webb (Rhode Island College) was hit by a pitch, took second on a passed ball, went to third on Burciaga's infield single and scored on a throwing error charged to SwampBats starter Erik Kaiser (Vanderbilt) which tied the game at two.
Kaiser (n/d) allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits while fanning six over three innings of work in his first start of the summer.
A single and a walk put two men on in the top of the fourth before Ryan Rotondo (Rhode Island College) gave the Muskrats a 5-2 lead with a three-run shot off of RHP Jeff Praml (Southern New Hampshire).
Keene got a pair of runs back in the home half of the fourth to draw within a run at 5-4 as Mitchell Golden (Georgia Southern) delivered a sac fly and Carballo (Kennesaw State) plated a run via an RBI groundout.
Huang stretched the Winnipesaukee lead to 6-4 with a solo shot in the top half of the fifth.
The SwampBats battled back to tie the game at six apiece with a pair in the bottom half of the fifth as consecutive singles and a walk loaded the bases before Hampton came through with an RBI single and Aguilar was hit by a pitch which allowed a run to score.
Muskrats starter Brian Eddy (Southern New Hampshire) surrendered the six runs on seven hits while walking four and fanning three in four plus innings.
