Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â Offensive Player of the Game Caleb Slover accounted for eight touchdowns and 304 yards of total offense as the Greensboro Prowlers slipped past the Charleston Swamp Foxes 76-62 Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Greensboro's 76 points is the most by any opponent in the North Charleston Coliseum, while the combined 138 points are the most in team history.
Slover completed 20-of-34 passes for 290 yards and six touchdowns while rushing five times for 14 yards and an additional pair of scores in the win. His favorite target on the night was the Ironman Award winner, Bobby Sippio. Offensively, Sippio caught six passes for 96 yards and three scores. On defense, Sippio tallied four and a half tackles, an interception, and three pass defenses.
For the Foxes, quarterback Johnny Turman completed 23-of-39 passes for a single-game record 367 yards and a record-tying eight touchdowns in the loss. Receiver Joe Judge hauled in eight passes for 155 yards and four touchdowns on the night. Judge added a game-high nine tackles on defense.
Michael Brown caught three passes for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Leroy McFadden tallied two scores on the night, one receiving and one rushing, with Mike Chandler adding an additional tally.
Charleston jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Turman connected with Chandler to cap a three-play, 43-yard opening drive. Greensboro answered, however, with 24 consecutive points to end the first and start the second quarters.
Back-to-back Swamp Foxes' tallies closed the deficit to four points at 24-20. Turman connected with Judge from 20 yards out and with Brown from 40 to pull the Foxes to within striking distance.
However, the Prowlers provided a sucker punch just before the break, scoring two touchdowns within the final second. Sippio scratched the board with a 21-yard scoring strike on what appeared to be the half's final drive.
But, on the ensuing kickoff Lamarr Glenn, a former Swamp Fox fullback/linebacker, recovered a Michael Brown fumble and stumbled into the end zone from the four-yard line to give Greensboro a 45-26 advantage at intermission.
The Swamp Foxes were able to pull to within 12 points late in the third quarter as McFadden charged in from the one-yard line and Turman added a two-point conversion completion. But the Prowlers answered each Foxes' score with one of their own to keep Charleston at bay.
The Swamp Foxes return to action next Friday night as they travel to Bossier City, LA for the first-ever match-up with the Bossier City Battle Wings. Kickoff is slated for 8:30 pm EST and can be heard locally on ESPN Radio, 1340 AM.
