Mohegan Wolves News Release

The Mohegan Wolves took their time getting started against Bossier City, but finished strong, defeating the Battle Wings 38-26 Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena. Mohegan upped its record to 9-4 on the season with the win while Bossier City had to travel back to Louisiana at 3-11 after the loss.

Bossier City scared Mohegan early by scoring the game's first 18 points. The Wolves finally got things going midway through the second quarter. QB GREG SMITH found OS MEL LONG for two scores in the final seven minutes of the half to pull the Wolves within five at the break, 18-13. Mohegan took command in the second half, outscoring the Battle Wings 25-8 to close out the game. The Wolves defense was a big reason for the team's second-half surge, limiting Bossier City to just 53 yards of total offense. ADT Defensive Player of the Game CHARLIE COOK was a big contributor to the cause, registering 2.5 of his career-best 3.5 total sacks in the final 30 minutes of play. Cook's night was also special because he set a new team record for most sacks in a season (10.5). Fellow teammate Jeff Cogell owned the previous team record of 7.5 total sacks, which he set in 2002.

WR/DB ANTHONY COMER was also a menace for Mohegan, earning the Ironman Award for notching impressive numbers on both sides of the ball. Comer registered two tackles and two pass breakups on defense in addition to his five catches for 60 yards on offense. Wolves' OS MEL LONG rounded out the team sweep of the game awards, earning Most Valuable Player honors with seven catches for 92 yards and three touchdowns.

Bossier City was led in defeat by the solo efforts of QB Payton Perrett and OS Leaford Hackitt. Perrett threw for a game-high 273 yards while Hackitt notched game-highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (146). The Battle Wings played hard, but not smart. The team spoiled its strong start by committing 14 penalties for 66 yards.
